With over two decades of expertise and operations spanning more than 45 markets worldwide, Slalom empowers its teams with autonomy to act swiftly and prioritize clients’ best interests. This approach fosters a more personalized and agile environment compared to traditional consultancies. Since launching the Auckland office in early 2023, Slalom continues to expand, offering varied opportunities to grow and shape the future.

Role Overview

The Data Engineering division at Slalom crafts intelligent organizational solutions through innovative data platforms that facilitate learning and insight generation. Engineers design scalable, enduring infrastructures leveraging modern data platforms and storage technologies. They enable real-time data processing and automated decision-making using streaming and embedded machine learning, all while adhering to stringent DataOps practices to ensure dependable, high-quality data delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conceive and implement forward-looking solutions on AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud leveraging tools such as cloud data warehouses, distributed processing engines, event streaming systems, and other contemporary data technologies.
  • Collaborate with visionary organizations in data and analytics; engage directly with clients to understand requirements and shape team-oriented delivery models.
  • Participate in data solution analysis, architectural design, and development, contributing to the formulation of cloud data strategies and phased implementation plans.
  • Support business development initiatives through pre-sales activities including project estimation and planning.
  • Actively contribute knowledge and expertise within the cloud and data communities at Slalom to advance capabilities.

Candidate Profile

Ideal candidates are inquisitive, self-driven, and adept at dissecting complex challenges into manageable steps. They exhibit a passion for continual learning and share insights within projects and the broader community. Although not expected to master all technologies, familiarity with several key areas is important, including:

  • Cloud-native modern data platforms like Snowflake and Databricks.
  • Cloud architecture on major providers (AWS, Azure, GCP), including implementation methods and best practices.
  • Cloud-native data services such as AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory, Google Cloud Dataflow, and Azure Synapse.
  • Programming languages like Python, Java, and Scala.
  • Streaming and event-driven system architectures.
  • Modern data orchestration tools such as dbt, Apache Airflow, Dagster, and Prefect.
  • Bonus knowledge in AI and MLOps is advantageous but not required.
