About the Role and Organization
Export Development Canada (EDC) empowers Canadian businesses to succeed globally by providing financial solutions and expert insights to explore new markets, mitigate risks, and foster growth. The Senior Advisor, International Relations, will operate predominantly from EDC's Ottawa headquarters and work in a hybrid environment with two in-office days per week currently, increasing to three days from September 2026. Eligible candidates may receive relocation assistance.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyze international policy changes and export credit agency business trends, translating the implications for EDC's strategic positioning and risk management.
- Lead priority international files by building subject matter expertise, coordinating internal experts, and defining EDC's stance on issues including WTO, FTAs, sustainable lending, climate, ESG, trade-related aid, and resilient supply chains.
- Engage with Government of Canada officials and Canada's OECD delegation to influence and align policies and strategies involving international trade finance.
- Contribute specialist knowledge to organizational initiatives such as legislative reviews and corporate strategy development.
- Interact with external stakeholders to ensure policy development aligns with Canadian business interests and priorities.
- Coordinate internal resources to prepare accurate reports and presentations for government and international stakeholders consistent with reporting obligations.
- Serve as a key liaison for consultations across government and internal teams to develop recommendations on complex international issues.
- Support executive engagements with government officials and international bodies.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- A bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Public Policy, International Relations, or related fields.
- At least 8 years of experience encompassing financing, advisory roles, business development, public policy, international affairs, or stakeholder relations.
- Strong expertise in trade finance products, export credits, and obligations of export credit agencies.
- Comprehensive understanding of export finance product life cycle including business development, underwriting, loan servicing, and asset management.
- Proven ability to collaborate across functions and advise senior management and boards.
- Flexibility to travel occasionally and work across global time zones.
- Exceptional attention to detail with capacity to manage multiple fast-paced projects efficiently.
Technical Skills
- Advanced financial literacy related to trade finance workflows.
- In-depth knowledge of international trade practices, export credit agencies, and institutions like the OECD, WTO, G7, and G20.
- Familiarity with EDC or equivalent export finance products and policies.
- Experience in project management with meticulous organizational skills.
Preferred Attributes
- Bilingual proficiency in English and French.
- Existing internal network within EDC.
- Experience in policy formulation, diplomatic negotiation, or related disciplines.
- Background in financing-related subject matter expertise.
- Skills in data analysis and visualization.

- Salary range from $96,557 to $128,743 based on qualifications and experience.
