About the Role

Our client is seeking a Staff Engineer to join their expanding engineering team focused on delivering extensive backend platforms serving millions of users. This 12-month contract role, based fully onsite in Dublin, involves designing, building, and optimizing scalable and resilient backend services using Scala alongside advanced functional programming methods.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop scalable backend microservices in Scala.
  • Implement resilient services deployed on Kubernetes clusters.
  • Design high-performing RESTful APIs and distributed system architectures.
  • Engage in architectural and technical design discussions with stakeholders.
  • Ensure software quality by performing rigorous testing, conducting code reviews, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot complex production issues promptly.
  • Document technical specifications, prepare RFCs, and conduct root cause analyses.
  • Mentor fellow engineers and promote adherence to best engineering practices.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and Design teams.
  • Participate in the on-call schedule to support production environments.

Required Experience and Skills

  • At least 7 years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Scala development, preferably with the Typelevel ecosystem including Cats, Cats Effect, http4s, fs2, Circe, or with ZIO.
  • Solid understanding of functional programming concepts and principles.
  • Experience with functional languages such as Haskell or PureScript is a significant advantage.
  • Expertise designing REST APIs and distributed service architectures.
  • Experience with AWS cloud platforms.
  • Knowledge in Kubernetes and microservices design and operation.
  • Experience supporting production systems with strong observability and incident management practices.
  • Excellent software design and analytical problem-solving capabilities.

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of Java, Golang, Python.
  • Experience with Tibco integration software.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tooling and cloud-native development approaches.

Additional Information

The role is fully onsite in Dublin, Ireland, offering a daily contract payment in the range of €400 to €450. Candidates will be expected to participate in an on-call rotation for production support. Interested applicants should submit their CV for consideration.
