Role Overview

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Rolling Stock Maintainer to contribute to the care and restoration of one of Australia's premier heritage rail fleets. This role involves practical maintenance, repair, overhaul, and restoration tasks for steam/diesel locomotives, passenger carriages, freight wagons, railcars, and workshop machinery.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on rolling stock and mechanical equipment to ensure safety and reliability.
• Diagnose mechanical faults and perform necessary repairs.
• Participate in restoration and overhaul projects on various railway stock.
• Fabricate or modify components when original parts are unavailable to maintain functionality.
• Keep detailed maintenance and inspection records.
• Provide supervision and support to trades assistants and collaborate with volunteers.
• Respond to emergency maintenance requirements as they arise.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Mechanical trade qualification at Certificate III level or higher.
• Proven experience in mechanical maintenance roles.
• Competency in reading and interpreting engineering blueprints.
• Effective problem-solving abilities and good communication skills.
• Possession of a current South Australian driver's licence.
• Capability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Preferred Experience

• Previous work in heritage railway, transport, or heavy industry maintenance settings.
• Skills in fabrication, machining, or welding.
• Knowledge of diesel locomotive systems, hydraulics, or air brakes.
• Experience working with volunteers and in not-for-profit organisations.
