Job description

Role Overview

The Retail Area Support Officer role is vital in ensuring a secure and safe environment across multiple retail sites. This position requires maintaining a visible security presence to protect customers, employees, and merchandise. Flexibility is key, as the role involves visiting various locations and working different shifts to meet operational demands.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide a strong and visible security presence that deters theft, anti-social behaviour, and other risks.
  • Conduct frequent patrols within store premises to uphold safety and vigilance.
  • Oversee and monitor CCTV and other security technologies to spot and react to suspicious activities promptly.
  • Perform searches following company policies and legal guidelines.
  • Respond swiftly to alarms and incidents, escalating issues to management or emergency services when required.
  • Document incidents and observations accurately and timely.
  • Collaborate effectively with store teams to tackle security-related issues and support loss prevention efforts.
  • Maintain a professional, approachable demeanor towards customers, staff, and visitors.
  • Provide assistance such as guidance, answering queries, and general support.
  • De-escalate confrontational situations calmly and efficiently.
  • Comply with site-specific procedures, company rules, and legal standards.
  • Support the broader security team and perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisors or security managers.

Mandatory Qualifications & Attributes

  • Legal right to work in the UK.
  • Current and valid Security Industry Authority (SIA) Licence for Door Supervisor or Security Guarding.
  • Strong observational skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Demonstrated capability to handle difficult situations with professionalism.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • A dependable and proactive approach focused on safety and service.
  • Flexibility to operate across multiple locations with inter-site travel.
  • Willingness to work variable shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
