Job description
Role Overview
The Radar Scientist is responsible for ensuring the precise scientific measurement of object speeds and the interpretation of radar sensor outputs. This role demands expert handling of radar data and accuracy in speed measurements to enhance system reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and refine methods for filtering, clustering, classifying, and tracking radar targets.
- Differentiating genuine vehicle signals from reflections, stationary objects, ghost targets, and other environmental interferences.
- Analyze and account for factors affecting speed measurement such as cosine error, sensor installation geometry, road curvature, and vehicle movement trajectory.
- Calculate and evaluate speed measurement errors, repeatability, uncertainty, and confidence intervals to ensure data integrity.
- Design and conduct controlled testing using reference speed measurement tools.
- Provide support for legal metrology assessments and technical certification processes.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
- Over five years of experience working with radar systems, including Doppler measurement, FMCW sensing, signal processing, and applied mathematics.
- Proficient knowledge of coordinate transformations, geometry, linear algebra, and spatial relationships in three dimensions.
Preferred Backgrounds
- Radar engineering
- Signal processing
- Automotive radar technologies
- Autonomous vehicle systems
- Sensor fusion techniques
- Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) or intelligent transportation systems
- Measurement science or metrology
Minimum education
Bachelor's Degree
