Job Overview
This role entails comprehensive leadership and oversight of quarry operations, ensuring effective, safe, and profitable production of aggregates including ballast, rocksand, and related products. The Quarry Manager will also spearhead initiatives for plant expansion and establishing new sites aligned with the company's strategic growth plans.
Key Duties
- Oversee daily quarry operations such as drilling, blasting, crushing, screening, and loading activities to meet production targets on quality, volume, and cost.
- Monitor the plant's operational performance, initiating necessary corrective measures to reduce downtime and optimize efficiency.
- Manage inventory levels, coordinate dispatches, and liaise closely with sales and logistics teams.
- Plan and direct the installation of new plants and capacity expansion projects, including equipment selection, layout design, and process optimisations.
- Supervise contractors, suppliers, and technical partners involved in setup projects while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory policies.
- Lead site teams including supervisors, operators, drivers, and support staff to maintain discipline, punctuality, and performance standards.
- Collaborate with HR for recruiting, training, and managing workforce discipline at the site level.
- Ensure compliance with mining/quarrying regulations, occupational health & safety standards, and environmental licensing requirements.
- Maintain effective relationships with regulatory bodies such as the Ministry of Mining, NEMA, and DOSH.
- Promote a culture of safety throughout the site operations.
- Produce regular reports on production and maintenance activities, identifying opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geology, or closely related discipline.
- At least 7 to 10 years of experience in quarry or mining operations, including a minimum of 3 years in senior operations management or general management roles.
- Proven track record in plant expansion, commissioning new plants, and managing quarry operations.
- In-depth knowledge of crushing and screening machinery and operational processes.
- Experience handling production of aggregates such as ballast and rocksand.
