Job description

Role Overview

The Property Clerk role is based in Sheffield, working within the South Yorkshire Police department. This temporary position lasts up to 12 months and requires 37 hours weekly. The role focuses on managing property that comes into police custody, ensuring all procedures comply with legal requirements and force policies.

Primary Duties

  • Travel across any location within the Sheffield District as necessary.
  • Handle heavy lifting tasks as part of property management.
  • Wear a uniform as required during the role.
  • Receive and collect property from various interim stores around the district, including sensitive items such as drugs, firearms, and cash, transporting them to the Central Property Store.
  • Maintain accurate records of property (excluding items found in a computer database).
  • Label property clearly for straightforward identification.
  • Prepare and cross-reference forensic documentation and exhibits before submission.
  • Organize property stores logically for easy access, covering both main and interim stores.
  • Maintain and manage property review procedures for the disposal process.
  • Coordinate all arrangements related to disposal, including organizing auctions.
  • Respond to property inquiries from the public through in-person and written communication.
  • Operate the property van when required and work from different South Yorkshire Police Property stores as needed.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Prior experience in an administrative role is essential.
  • Proven ability to interact with the public both face-to-face and via telephone.
  • Proficiency in computer use, including data entry and retrieval using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Willingness to provide biometric samples (DNA) for inclusion on policing elimination databases to meet ongoing role requirements.

Additional Information

A minimum three-year checkable history is mandatory for applicants, alongside successful recruitment vetting.
