Job Location and Schedule
This permanent position is based at Yeovil Delivery Office, BA20 1AA. The role involves working 37 hours weekly, spread over 9 days within a fortnight, from Monday to Sunday between 08:00 and 16:45. Working one in three Sundays is part of the rota, with Sunday hours from 12:00 to 18:00. Shift rotations and delivery routes vary according to demand.
Role Overview
As a Postal Delivery Driver (Postie), you will be the local face of Royal Mail, responsible for sorting and delivering letters and parcels by van and on foot within the community. Your work will include building positive customer relationships and operating outdoors regardless of weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Sort mail and parcels at the delivery office.
- Deliver post using the company van and on foot in designated local areas.
- Engage and foster good relations with customers.
- Work in various weather conditions and maintain high service standards.
Working Conditions
- Physically challenging work including walking up to 12 miles daily and carrying mailbags of 10kg or more.
- Driving a Royal Mail van daily and passing a driving assessment.
- Handling high parcel volumes and meeting time-sensitive delivery schedules, especially in peak periods.
Candidate Attributes
- Full manual UK driving license with no more than six penalty points and current personal registration.
- Physically fit for long-distance walking and carrying substantial loads.

Additional Information
Roles with 35-37 hours per week are considered full-time but any below 37 hours are classified as part-time contractually. Security and proper handling of all delivery items, including election materials and certain food and alcohol products, is expected as per company standards. No CV is required; selection includes an online test and manager interview to join the team delivering what matters locally.
