Job description
Job Overview
Reporting directly to the Manager of Payroll Services, the Payroll Analyst manages the complete payroll process independently. This includes handling payroll transactions through the iSYS Works and iSYS Web Payroll System and calculating specialized payments when necessary. The analyst oversees the payroll cycle to assure accuracy and timely completion, maintains necessary payroll documentation and controls, and identifies potential payroll concerns proactively.
The role also involves leading year-end payroll activities, preparing Records of Employment, managing payroll accounting duties, and administering pension plan procedures including OMERS and Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan. Effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders on payroll and pension inquiries is essential, as is strong analytical ability and meticulous attention to detail. The incumbent will exercise good judgment, initiative, and meet strict deadlines, with additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- At least two years of experience processing full-cycle payroll.
- Completion of a two-year college business administration program is preferred.
- Must hold the National Payroll Institute Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation.
- In-depth knowledge of payroll legislation such as Canada Revenue Agency, Service Canada, Employment Standards Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, and Employer Health Tax regulations.
- Experience in unionized, educational, or public sector environments is advantageous.
- Proficient with computerized payroll systems and office software including Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and Windows.
- Familiarity with iSYS Works and iSYS Web Payroll System is highly desirable.
- Understanding of OMERS and Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities, demonstrate initiative, maintain attention to detail, and adhere to deadlines.
- Ability to take full ownership of payroll processing through effective planning, organization, communication, and follow-through.
- Commitment to maintaining standardized payroll procedures, documentation, and internal controls with ongoing process improvements.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and handle sensitive and confidential information maturely.
Location and Salary
This position is based at Father Kennedy Catholic Education Center, 90 Mulberry Street, Hamilton, Ontario.
The salary range corresponds to Professional Administrative Support Staff (PASS 5): $70,872 to $88,588 per annum.
