About Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children

Role Overview
The Payroll Advisor position is a permanent full-time role based in Wellington with hybrid working flexibility. The role involves overseeing payroll operations including verifying and assuring payroll data from HR workflows, processing on-cycle and off-cycle pay runs, administering ACC, superannuation, and deductions, as well as handling final pays and overpayments. The advisor will work collaboratively with the Payroll Manager to ensure accuracy, timely processing, and compliance with payroll legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Verify and assure payroll data accuracy obtained via HR workflows.
- Process and reconcile payroll runs including on-cycle and off-cycle payments.
- Manage administration of ACC, superannuation contributions, and payroll deductions.
- Handle processing and reconciliation of final pays and overpayments.
- Ensure compliance with payroll laws and regulations.
- Collaborate effectively with Payroll Manager and other stakeholders.
Candidate Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to build trustworthy and credible relationships with managers and staff.
- Experience working within payroll in a large organization, with proficiency in HRIS and payroll systems; SAP experience preferred.
- Solid understanding of legislative frameworks affecting payroll operations.
- Advanced problem-solving skills and capability to analyze payroll data effectively.
- Strong customer service orientation and people-focused interpersonal skills.
- Cultural competency, especially familiarity with tikanga Māori and Pacific peoples' cultures.
Compensation & Benefits
The position offers a step-based salary package beginning between $77,886 and $86,082 annually, with progression tied to experience and tenure.
