Position Overview

This fixed-term role lasts until October 2026, entails a full-time schedule of 80 hours over two weeks plus a monthly accrued day off, and is classified as Orthotist/Prosthetist Grade 1 Year 1-5 (CO7-CP2). The position is based at various Alfred Care Group locations including Alfred, Caulfield, and Sandringham hospitals.

Department Description

The Alfred Orthotic Department serves diverse clinical needs, including trauma, orthopedics, neurosurgery, plastics, and burns care. It provides both acute orthotic treatments and long-term orthotic management aimed at enhancing patients’ quality of life. Services are delivered primarily at The Alfred but also extend to affiliated hospitals and private referrals.

Role Responsibilities

• Serve as a vital team member within the Orthotic Department, collaborating closely with allied health professionals and medical teams in orthopedics, neurosurgery, and trauma.
• Participate in on-call and weekend duty rosters as required.
• Manage a clinical caseload involving acute orthopedic and trauma inpatients, burns and plastics patients, diabetic high-risk foot cases, and outpatient care.
• Support subacute rehabilitation services including orthopaedics, aged care, neurological and spinal rehabilitation, and acquired brain injury recovery.
• Develop and provide orthotic services tailored to assigned units and rotations, under the guidance of senior clinicians and department management.
• Potentially work across The Alfred, Caulfield, and Sandringham hospital sites.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Experience in managing inpatient orthotic care.
• Strong clinical caseload management capabilities.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Commitment to delivering patient-focused care.
• Proficiency in educating and supervising staff and students.
• Eligibility for membership with the Australian Orthotic & Prosthetic Association.
