Starting January 26, 2026, employees residing within 50 miles of a Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25 miles internationally are expected to work onsite a minimum of four days weekly, subject to local laws.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop novel algorithms and model architectures; conduct experiments and champion rigorous evaluation and measurement practices.
• Enhance training and deployment workflows focusing on efficiency and meticulous improvement through learning from all project outcomes.
• Apply systematic, data-driven approaches grounded in thorough ablation studies and scientific methodology.
• Continuously innovate and refine ideas, prototypes, and final products.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with infrastructure, data engineering, pre- and post-training teams, and product stakeholders.
• Advance AI technology responsibly and embody Microsoft’s cultural values.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in AI, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, or related technical fields with at least 4 years of engineering experience in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python; or equivalent professional experience.
• Preferred: Master’s degree in related disciplines with 8+ years, or Bachelor’s with 12+ years extensive engineering experience, with strong coding skills especially in Python and data libraries (Pandas, NumPy, etc.).
• Proven experience designing and deploying large-scale AI frameworks, multimodal or conversational models, proficiency with ML frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow, and cloud/HPC platforms such as Azure.
• Expert knowledge in dataset engineering including design, annotation pipeline development, quality and bias assessment, and adherence to privacy and Responsible AI standards.
• Experience with large language model interaction, prompt engineering, safety evaluation, and production integration of conversational AI.
• Strong communication and collaboration capabilities including technical documentation, partnering with various teams, knowledge sharing, and deploying emerging AI practices.

Compensation and Additional Information

The base annual salary range varies by location and role level (IC4: $119,800-$234,700; IC5: $142,800-$274,800 in most U.S. locations, with higher ranges in specific metro areas). Additional benefits and compensation may be available.
