Overview
We are looking for a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer with between 2.5 and 5 years of experience focused on product and electromechanical system design, ideally within semiconductor or special purpose equipment sectors. The engineer will take comprehensive ownership of product development, from initial concept to detailed engineering, validation, and manufacturing support, aiming for quality, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical and electromechanical systems for complex and advanced equipment solutions.
- Create concept designs, 3D models, and detailed 2D drawings using CAD software tools.
- Manage the development of intricate assemblies and configurations.
- Produce manufacturing drawings alongside bills of materials and part lists.
- Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) techniques including tolerance stack-up and worst-case scenario analysis.
- Maintain updated drawings with revision tracking and change logs.
- Promote Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
- Collaborate with manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, injection molding, and additive manufacturing.
- Support prototype development, testing, validation, and conduct failure and root cause analyses.
- Manage engineering change orders and lifecycle documentation ensuring proper revision control.
- Align mechanical designs with electrical elements like wiring, sensors, and actuators.
- Engage actively with cross-functional teams including electrical, software, manufacturing, and supply chain departments.
- Participate in client meetings and technical design reviews.
- Compile and maintain technical documentation including assembly instructions and test procedures.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards such as SEMI, EMI/EMC requirements, and cleanroom regulations.
Technical and Behavioral Skills
- Proficient in mechanical design, 2D/3D CAD modeling, and detailed engineering documentation.
- Expertise in GD&T, tolerance analyses, and BOM/drawing management for complex assemblies.
- Knowledge of manufacturing techniques including welding, materials science, and surface finishing.
- Familiarity with special purpose machinery and machine design preferred.
- Experience with CAD tools like SolidWorks or Creo, and PLM/PDM systems such as Windchill, Enovia, Teamcenter, Arena, or SAP.
- Exposure to semiconductor equipment design, thermal/vibration/structural simulations, and understanding of optical systems and routing methods is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities, excellent communication skills, multitasking ability, attention to detail, and solution-oriented approach.
Additional Information
- Willingness to undertake travel as required by project demands.
- Ability to interact effectively with clients and stakeholders.
Location & Qualifications
Positions available in Bangalore and Chennai. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.E. or B.Tech) with a preference for Master’s qualifications.
