Role Overview

The Material & Logistics Manager is responsible for end-to-end management of stores, material control, and logistics activities supporting maintenance and part-out functions. This leadership role oversees a team operating under strict regulatory approvals, ensuring compliance and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage stores and materials control in compliance with Part 145 approvals from multiple aviation authorities.
• Lead receiving inspections verifying release documentation, certificates of conformity, and traceability for life-limited/time-controlled components.
• Ensure proper classification and segregation of materials including serviceable, unserviceable, quarantined, scrap, and unsalvageable parts, managing their disposal to prevent re-entry into the supply chain.
• Maintain compliance with storage requirements such as shelf life, temperature, humidity, and special handling for sensitive components.
• Oversee tooling and equipment calibration status and quarantine out-of-calibration items.
• Verify materials come from approved sources and support supplier evaluation through sharing performance data with purchasing.
• Identify and report suspected unapproved parts, including raising necessary occurrence reports.
• Maintain complete, auditable records and serve as primary contact for audits by regulators, accreditation bodies, and customers.
• Ensure adherence to human factors, continuation, and dangerous goods training for self and team.
• Set and review inventory levels, reorder points, and consumable stocking policies.
• Prioritize material demands including urgent AOG needs and communicate clear specifications to purchasing.
• Monitor open orders, anticipate delays, and escalate issues affecting maintenance schedules.
• Handle discrepancies in received materials and support commercial recovery processes through purchasing.
• Manage inbound/outbound aircraft material logistics, including customs clearance and dangerous goods consignment.
• Coordinate with freight forwarders and carriers, addressing AOG and time-critical transports.
• Oversee preservation, packaging, and shipping according to industry and customer standards.
• Collaborate with engineering, planning, and maintenance teams to align material availability with maintenance scheduling.
• Provide leadership to the stores and logistics team by setting clear standards, managing performance, delivering training, and handling underperformance.
• Track key performance indicators such as inventory accuracy, inspection turnaround, quarantine rates, stock variance, and AOG response time, and implement improvements.
• Develop and maintain work instructions and procedures, managing changes through quality approval processes.
• Ensure compliance with environmental, workplace health and safety, and security standards within all material handling areas.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum five years in aviation materials, stores, or logistics with at least three years in a leadership role managing people.
• Practical comprehension of Part 145 material control demonstrated through professional experience handling documentation issues, traceability, shelf life, and segregation/disposal of unserviceable materials.
• Experience successfully managing audits from aviation authorities, accreditation bodies, or customer quality organizations, including closure of findings.
• Current or attainable IATA dangerous goods shipping training within three months.
• Proficiency with maintenance and engineering systems for material control (e.g., AMOS, TRAX, Quantum, Ramco) and Microsoft Office applications.
• Sound decision-making under operational pressures with ability to uphold compliance standards despite schedule challenges.
• Possession of an open, unrestricted Australian driver's licence and willingness to obtain a Red ASIC security clearance.
• Availability to relocate and reside in Alice Springs.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Familiarity with ASA-100 or AFRA Best Management Practice accreditation environments.
• Knowledge of part-out, teardown, or use of serviceable materials.
• Experience with export control, sanctions screening, or customs compliance.
• High risk work licence (LF) for forklift operation or readiness to acquire it.

Working Conditions

This full-time position is based at Alice Springs Airport, involving work in warehouse and airside areas subject to noise and weather exposure. Physical effort such as lifting, ladder climbing, and working at height is required. Safety equipment will be provided and must be used. Relocation assistance is available for the successful applicant.
