Role summary
This position is for an experienced IT Manager to take charge of the London branch IT function. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the role focuses on keeping IT operations stable, secure, resilient and continuously improving, while also overseeing a small team of IT professionals.
The opportunity is suited to a practical, hands-on technology leader who can combine infrastructure expertise with project delivery, stakeholder coordination, regulatory understanding and team leadership.
Key responsibilities
- Own the daily running and service availability of the London branch IT environment.
- Administer servers, networks, desktop systems, mobile devices, telephony, backup and storage platforms.
- Lead IT projects, system upgrades and infrastructure improvement programmes.
- Serve as the main technical escalation contact for incidents and IT issues.
- Keep IT operations aligned with security, audit, risk, regulatory and resilience requirements.
- Manage disaster recovery and business continuity planning, including testing.
- Handle vendor management, outsourced service oversight and technology service delivery.
- Coach, guide and develop a small team of IT staff.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related subject.
- Prince2 or PMP certification is preferred.
- Microsoft and/or Cisco certifications are highly desirable.
- At least 7 years of IT experience, including responsibility for managing people.
- Background in IT infrastructure, operations and technical support.
- Track record of delivering IT projects and service improvements.
- Experience in banking or other highly regulated environments is an advantage.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and Exchange.
- Experience with Active Directory and Group Policy management.
- Familiarity with VMware and virtualization platforms.
- Understanding of core networking, including switching, routing and firewalls.
- Experience with backup and storage administration.
- Ability to manage Windows infrastructure.
- Knowledge of business continuity and disaster recovery practices.
- Awareness of IT security and patch management.
- Exposure to telephony systems, with Avaya preferred.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Comfort operating in a fast-moving, high-pressure environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach and build teams.
