Role Overview
The Litigation Paralegal will oversee a collection of litigation cases before the Small Claims Court, Landlord Tenant Board, Provincial Offences Court, and other tribunals. Daily duties include performing legal research, drafting and formatting pleadings and motions, preparing and reviewing legal documents, and presenting cases in court. The role requires effective communication with courts, clients, and opposing counsel under the direction of supervising attorneys. This position is full-time, requires on-site presence in the Greater Ottawa Metropolitan Area, and necessitates collaboration within the office and availability for court scheduling demands.
Qualifications and Skills
- Expertise in litigation practices such as court submissions, witness examination and cross-examination, legal document preparation, and document review to facilitate effective case management and ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Strong legal research aptitude to identify relevant case law, statutes, and regulations, including the ability to synthesize findings into clear research summaries.
- Proven experience in drafting and managing pleadings and motions within litigation contexts.
- Relevant post-secondary education in paralegal studies, law, or related fields, or equivalent hands-on experience supporting litigation.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, coupled with high attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Competence in juggling multiple priorities, adhering to deadlines, and collaborating effectively with attorneys and colleagues on-site.
- Familiarity with legal practice management software, e-discovery platforms, and standard office applications such as word processing and spreadsheets.
- Experience working in civil or commercial litigation settings within law firms or corporate legal departments is mandatory.
Additional Information
This role offers an annual salary range of $65,000 to $75,000, accompanied by benefits. The position demands consistent office attendance located in the Greater Ottawa Metropolitan area with availability to meet court scheduling requirements.
