Key Responsibilities
- Architect innovative solutions addressing the most complex engineering challenges in autonomous cleaning robot design.
- Lead and mentor a design engineering team to successfully develop robotic hardware products, ensuring delivery within timelines and quality benchmarks.
- Manage the entire design lifecycle from ideation, prototyping, through testing, to final product launch.
- Leverage rapid prototyping techniques such as 3D printing, laser cutting, and sheet metal fabrication to quickly validate design concepts.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to ensure hardware components integrate seamlessly.
- Conduct detailed research and analysis to define design requirements focusing on functionality, manufacturing feasibility, and cost-effectiveness.
- Create and refine detailed 3D CAD models and engineering drawings to guarantee accuracy and usability of designs.
- Oversee the development of comprehensive technical documentation for efficient product transition into manufacturing.
- Maintain thorough engineering records including schematics, drawings, and bills of materials.
- Assess risks rigorously and implement mitigation plans to assure product safety and reliability.
- Work with suppliers and manufacturers to source parts, validate production viability, and ensure compliance with design criteria.
- Stay abreast of robotics hardware industry trends and actively incorporate cutting-edge technologies into product designs.
- Provide ongoing technical assistance and leadership to manufacturing teams, resolving design issues and facilitating smooth production processes.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design, or related disciplines.
- 4 to 5 years of experience in product management, design engineering, or a closely related area.
- Strong background in product development methodologies including Agile, Stage-Gate, Lean Product Development, and Design Thinking.
- Demonstrated skill in rapid prototyping, particularly using 3D printing to iterate conceptual designs.
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks CAD software.
- Experience with new product introduction (NPI) as well as launching new features within technology companies.
- Preferred: Operational experience in deploying hardware or robotic products.
- In-depth expertise in mechanical design, manufacturing methods, and material selection strategies.
- Competent in selecting materials for plastics and metals, considering manufacturability, cost efficiency, corrosion resistance, and UL-94 flame rating standards.
- Familiarity with supply chain processes including vendor selection and supplier qualification using methods like Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, APQP, and PPAP.
- Excellent analytical problem-solving skills with experience in decision-making tools such as DFMEA and root cause analysis.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management capabilities to bridge technical and non-technical team gaps.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment while upholding high execution standards.
