Impact & ESG Manager

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Impact and ESG Manager to lead and oversee the environmental, social, and governance responsibilities across our renewable energy projects in West Africa. This pivotal role will focus on developing and managing ESG frameworks, ensuring adherence to international compliance standards, measuring and reporting impact, and advancing sustainability efforts throughout our operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement the ESG framework and Environmental & Social Management System (ESMS) for the organization.
• Ensure ongoing compliance with Development Finance Institution (DFI), investor requirements, and global ESG standards including IFC Performance Standards, 2X Challenge, EDFI Environmental & Social Standards.
• Maintain up-to-date ESG policies, monitor changes in regulations, and assess risks related to climate change.
• Develop and apply an Impact Measurement and Management framework incorporating IRIS+, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and Theory of Change methodologies.
• Manage the collection, verification, and reporting of impact data, conduct audits, and oversee grievance mechanisms for stakeholders.
• Lead greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting across Scopes 1 to 3, alongside climate and ESG reporting to investors and funding partners.
• Produce comprehensive impact reports, case studies, respond to ESG questionnaires, and prepare sustainability communication materials.
• Implement gender inclusion initiatives, including delivering the 2X Challenge strategy and Gender Action Plan.
• Promote diversity, encourage local content use, foster inclusive procurement, and engage actively with local communities.
• Conduct ESG due diligence on prospective projects and investments, identifying potential risks and establishing mitigation plans.
• Incorporate ESG considerations into investment analyses and monitor supplier compliance with ESG standards, including sanctions screening and eligibility checks.
• Oversee occupational health and safety systems, including developing safety management plans, emergency response protocols, conducting audits, investigations, and training.
• Support compliance activities related to Know Your Customer (KYC), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), sanctions, anti-bribery, and anti-corruption measures.
• Maintain current compliance policies, track regulatory updates, provide internal compliance training, and advise senior leadership on ESG and compliance obligations relevant to the regions of operation.
