Role Overview
This position is central to creating a well-structured organisation, keeping local operations compliant, and supporting a strong performance-driven culture. In this role, you will serve as a strategic partner to the business and as an important link between the European teams and the international headquarters.
Human Resources Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the full employee journey for European staff, covering hiring, onboarding, employment contracts, performance reviews, pay and benefits, and exit processes.
- Make sure HR policies, procedures, and day-to-day practices comply with labour regulations in the covered countries: Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, and Benelux.
- Drive the roll-out and day-to-day management of localised compensation and benefits programmes, balancing market competitiveness with internal fairness.
- Act as the main HR partner for local managers, advising them on people management, employee development, and sensitive employee relations matters.
- Handle communications and consultations with employee representative bodies, including the Works Council in Germany.
- Keep European employee handbooks and HR policies current when laws or regulations change.
Office and Operations Management
- Manage the everyday running of the Hamburg office, including vendor coordination, budget oversight, workplace upkeep, and health and safety standards.
- Support other European offices with administrative coordination to improve efficiency across operations.
- Organise regional team-building activities, meetings, and business travel arrangements.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a closely related discipline.
- At least 5 years of broad HR generalist experience, including practical hands-on work in Germany and at least one additional European country within the listed scope: France, Spain, Portugal, or Benelux.
- Strong practical knowledge of German labour law, along with a solid understanding of EU employment frameworks.
- Professional fluency in both English and German, spoken and written.
- Legal permission to work in Germany, such as EU citizenship, a valid Blue Card, or permanent residence.
- Preferred exposure to labour laws in France, Spain, Portugal, and/or the Benelux region.
- Experience working in international, cross-cultural matrix organisations is an advantage.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
- A proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to manage several priorities independently.
