Job description
Overview
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Human Resources, the HR Generalist offers crucial administrative, project-based, and analytical assistance to human resources operations within the Arthur Ashe Student Health & Wellness Center and supports Student Affairs as necessary. This role is integral to handling various HR functions in a unionized healthcare environment with diverse employment classifications and multiple unions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist HR leads in processing HR transactions efficiently.
- Support departments in recruitment activities and employee onboarding processes.
- Create, update, and maintain comprehensive job descriptions.
- Provide guidance regarding personnel policies, procedures, and benefit communications.
- Manage employee offboarding activities and maintain employment records accurately.
- Collaborate with Campus Human Resources (CHR) for approvals and exceptions when needed.
- Work effectively under pressure amidst shifting deadlines and priorities.
- Operate within a unionized setting covering various unions such as EX, NX, CX, HX, DX, TX, SV, RP, etc.
Qualifications
- One to three years of HR experience is required.
- In-depth knowledge of HR principles, employment practices, personnel policies, and collective bargaining agreements applicable to complex union environments.
- Proficiency in drafting accurate HR documents, correspondence, and using software such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, HR systems, and other business tools.
- Preferred familiarity with the UCPath HR system.
- Understanding of employee benefits and leave programs including FMLA, university leave procedures, eligibility criteria, documentation, return-to-work processes, and interactive processes.
- Strong analytical ability to interpret data, resolve issues, and provide sound recommendations.
- Mathematical skills necessary for salary calculations, leave accrual, payroll adjustments, and other HR or financial transactions.
- Excellent oral and written communication capabilities to effectively and diplomatically engage a varied audience.
- Capacity to comprehend, apply, and explain diverse HR policies and procedures accurately.
- Sound judgment and discretion managing confidential and sensitive issues.
- Ability to build cooperative relationships with employees, management, HR partners, payroll, and other stakeholders, delivering high-quality service.
- Effective prioritization and independent work skills to manage workload, interruptions, and changing priorities flawlessly.
- Preferred understanding of university personnel and payroll policies, collective bargaining agreements, and compliance requirements in university or healthcare contexts.
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience/training is required.
Additional Requirements
- Successful completion of a background check and Live Scan background check prior to employment.
- Must undergo and pass a pre-placement physical and TB test to continue employment.
- Compliance with mandatory reporting under CANRA, requiring a signed acknowledgment for child abuse reporting.
Working Hours
The standard schedule is 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Union Coverage
This role is covered under the CX-Clerical & Allied Services union.

Minimum education
