Head of Core and Data Platforms

Overview

Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), this leadership role spearheads Maybank's Core Platforms domain, which includes critical systems such as core banking, cards, payments, and enterprise data platforms. The position is responsible for delivering operational stability and driving strategic platform upgrades, ensuring the institution's foundational services are resilient, scalable, and future-ready.

Key Responsibilities

• End-to-end ownership of architecture, development, deployment, and operation of core banking and enterprise platforms, guaranteeing high availability and performance.
• Champion continuous improvements in platform stability, system reliability, and production controls.
• Lead large-scale initiatives focused on platform modernization, upgrades, and architectural simplification.
• Establish enterprise data strategies encompassing data warehouses, lakes, and analytics structures to advance AI/ML-driven capabilities.
• Collaborate with data governance teams to enhance data quality, lineage, accessibility, and compliance.
• Promote adoption of advanced data architectures, including cloud-native and real-time platforms.
• Drive multi-year transformation programmes aligning with modular, API-first, and cloud-enabled design principles.
• Enhance engineering frameworks like DevSecOps, automation, and scalable designs consistent with enterprise architecture targets.
• Oversee compliance with risk management policies, security controls, audit remediation, and regulatory governance particularly aligned with MAS and Group mandates.
• Lead the bank's technology resilience efforts, including disaster recovery, incident response, and crisis management as the accountable senior owner.
• Manage sizeable technology budgets, investments, and vendor ecosystems to optimize costs and innovate effectively.
• Forge strong partnerships with business, digital, risk, compliance, and group technology teams to foster collaborative platform advancement.
• Develop and mentor diverse high-performing teams, advancing engineering capabilities and leadership pipelines while promoting agile methodologies and DevOps cultures.

Requirements

• At least 15 years in technology leadership roles within banking or financial services sectors.
• Extensive expertise managing core banking platforms, enterprise systems, and complex data ecosystems.
• Successful track record leading large teams overseeing multifaceted technology portfolios and deliverables.
• Demonstrable experience driving platform modernization and technology transformation programs.
• Comprehensive knowledge of technology resilience, regulatory compliance requirements, and risk frameworks.
• Proven ability managing large-scale delivery programs and engineering operations.
• Excellent capability engaging senior leadership, regulators, and business partners to align goals and report progress.
