This position focuses on enhancing our financial crime detection and prevention mechanisms, particularly improving how we handle fraud rule management and decisioning related to card and transaction fraud. This is a strategic role that emphasizes proactive rule development, testing, monitoring, and tuning rather than traditional case handling.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full lifecycle of fraud rules, including proposal, analysis, testing, deployment, monitoring, adjustment, and rollback.
- Engage with decisioning tools and rule engines to support fraud detection logic and enhance effectiveness.
- Analyze trends in fraud alerts, false positives/negatives, and rule performance data to optimize detection strategies.
- Convert insights and requests from Fraud Operations and other stakeholders into structured and actionable rule proposals.
- Evaluate the necessity and impact of new or modified rules based on data-driven evidence.
- Monitor deployed rules consistently, identifying areas for tuning to maintain accuracy and minimize customer impact.
- Handle operational requests related to fraud controls while maintaining thorough documentation and traceability.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with FraudOps, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Product, Engineering, Data, Compliance, and Legal teams to align decisioning changes with overall risk management approaches.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation detailing fraud rules, rationale, expected effects, testing results, and monitoring findings.
- Improve operational resilience by establishing repeatable procedures and enhancing business continuity in fraud decisioning processes.
Candidate Profile & Requirements
- Prior experience in roles such as Fraud Analyst, Risk Analyst, Fraud Strategy Analyst, Fraud Rules Analyst, or Decisioning Analyst is essential.
- Proven hands-on experience using decisioning platforms, fraud rules engines, risk systems, or internal decisioning tools.
- Skilled in crafting, testing, monitoring, and tuning fraud rules and risk thresholds effectively.
- Strong analytical aptitude with comfort interpreting data to assess rule effectiveness and fraud patterns.
- Comprehensive knowledge of fraud types, including card fraud, transaction fraud, account misuse, and payment fraud.
- A balanced approach to fraud mitigation considering customer experience and operational impacts.
- Experience managing false positives and dedication to continuous tuning of fraud controls.
- Excellent written communication skills for documenting rule logic, rationale, and expected outcomes clearly and transparently.
- Ability to work collaboratively across various teams such as Fraud Operations, Product, Engineering, Compliance, and Data analytics.
- Organized mindset with a focus on documentation, traceability, governance, and change management.
- Background in fintech, banking, payments, spend management, or regulated financial industries is advantageous.
- Basic proficiency with SQL or data analysis tools.
Success Milestones
- Gain an in-depth understanding of Pleo’s fraud decisioning framework and effectively manage daily fraud rule operations within three months.
- Improve the structure, documentation, and traceability of fraud rule proposals and changes.
- Support rule amendments with clear data-driven justification and define expected impacts.
- Strengthen post-deployment monitoring routines to ensure consistent rule effectiveness.
- Enhance collaboration and operational cadence between Fraud Operations and Decision Intelligence teams for ongoing fraud control refinement.
