Flagger and Traffic Control Technician

About the Role

C.J. Hughes Construction Co., Inc. is seeking a dependable and safety-focused individual to join their Flagging Department as a Flagging and Traffic Control Technician. This role requires overseeing traffic control and flagging responsibilities to facilitate the safe and smooth passage of vehicles at construction sites. Candidates should be prepared for outdoor work regardless of weather conditions.

Primary Responsibilities

• Direct traffic safely around construction zones using hand signals and traffic control signs.
• Communicate efficiently with fellow flaggers via two-way radios to manage alternating traffic flows.
• Alert construction crews to any traffic situations that could pose safety risks.
• Set up and remove warning signs and detours around work areas.
• Install and dismantle barricades, cones, and other barriers to delineate restricted zones.
• Perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds, standing for extended periods, climbing, kneeling, reaching, and crouching.
• Maintain constant vigilance while working near heavy machinery in hazardous zones.
• Adapt to varying schedules and locations, including possible overnight travel on short notice.
• Possess reliable transportation to access multiple job sites as needed.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license is mandatory.
• Clean background and driving record are required.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Willingness to travel to different job locations as necessary.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• At least one year of experience in flagging operations.
• Certification from American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) is preferred but not required.
• Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and the public.

Work Schedule

Typical shifts last 8 to 10 hours, with overtime opportunities available.
