Job Overview
We are looking for a full-time Engineering Technologist to join the team at Dandenong, Victoria. This permanent role offers an annual salary ranging from $80,000 to $85,000, commensurate with experience, along with superannuation benefits.
Responsibilities
- Interpret client project needs and transform engineering, fabrication, automation, and production demands into effective technical approaches.
- Create and review 3D models, engineering drawings, fabrication layouts, and component specifications tailored for custom machinery and engineered products.
- Assist with the design, development, and deployment of automation systems, including industrial robotics and robotic welding used in manufacturing and fabrication.
- Evaluate existing manufacturing processes; suggest enhancements to improve throughput, precision, safety, and quality.
- Generate technical documents, work procedures, design annotations, material specifications, and fabrication instructions for implementation teams.
- Collaborate closely with fabricators, welders, draftspeople, machine operators, and project groups to ensure precise manufacture and assembly of engineered designs.
- Perform technical evaluations on laser cutting, welding, fabrication, and robotic procedures to validate tolerances and product compliance.
- Participate in the setup, testing, and troubleshooting of automated machinery, robotic welding systems, and related industrial equipment.
- Assess materials, fabrication techniques, welding methodologies, and manufacturing methods to identify optimum solutions for each project.
- Track project milestones from conceptual design through fabrication, installation, and commissioning, ensuring adherence to quality standards, timelines, and client expectations.
- Detect and resolve design challenges, production limitations, machinery faults, and fabrication risks with practical engineering interventions.
- Support quality assurance by inspecting fabricated parts, verifying dimensions, examining weld integrity, and ensuring conformity to engineering documentation.
- Communicate with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders regarding technical specifications, project modifications, design feasibility, material availability, and delivery scheduling.
- Implement occupational health and safety measures, machinery safety protocols, fabrication safety standards, and engineering compliance across design, workshop, and field activities.
Requirements
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree or Advanced Diploma in Engineering Technology, Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- A minimum of two years of professional experience as an Engineering Technologist in fabrication engineering, manufacturing engineering, automation, industrial robotics, or similar technical fields.
- At least two years’ experience working with automation systems, robotic welding technologies, industrial robotics, custom machinery, manufacturing process optimization, or equipment integration projects.
- Two or more years’ involvement in evaluating fabrication methods, welding techniques, laser cutting necessities, material decisions, tolerance assessment, and manufacturability of engineered components.
- Experience of no less than two years troubleshooting assembly-related issues, automated and robotic machinery problems, production equipment faults, or workshop engineering challenges.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting wiring diagrams, circuit schematics, and technical manuals; capable in using diagnostic tools such as multimeters and oscilloscopes.
- Strong understanding of automotive electronics, low voltage systems, and wiring harness assemblies.
- Ability to perform in-depth root cause analysis, system validations, and ensure rule compliance.
- Knowledge of quality assurance standards, safety regulations, and manufacturing workflows.
- Excellent documentation skills and ability to communicate technical concepts effectively.
- Exceptional teamwork and communication capabilities, combined with strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities within deadlines.
