Engineering Manager - Online Stock Trading Platform

Role Overview

Join Digital Zone as an Engineering Manager to establish and guide the engineering team for a pioneering online stock trading platform. This greenfield project demands absolute precision, ensuring that orders, positions, and finances are accurate and reliable in real-time under market pressures.

Key Responsibilities

• Form and lead the trading engineering team from inception: recruit, mentor, and develop engineers with a strong emphasis on quality where errors translate to financial loss.
• Chart the technical vision and system architecture including order management, execution lifecycle, market data processing, portfolio management, settlement, and reconciliation workflows.
• Steer integrations with brokers, exchanges, and market data sources, making informed connectivity choices.
• Guarantee system robustness and accuracy amid market volatility with focus on latency constraints, handling peak loads, idempotency, and audit-verifiable reconciliation.
• Collaborate with product, compliance, risk, and finance teams to embed regulatory, KYC, AML, and audit requirements from the onset.
• Implement essential engineering methodologies such as comprehensive testing suites, controlled deployments, incident handling, and comprehensive observability tools covering the order lifecycle.

Candidate Profile

• A minimum of 8 years of software engineering experience with at least 3 years in engineering leadership roles involving team building and mentoring.
• Proven track record in constructing or maintaining live online stock trading, brokerage, or capital markets platforms, specifically delivering components like order management, execution, or settlement systems.
• Deep understanding of trading domains including order workflows, market data streams, clearing, corporate actions, and compliance-driven reconciliation and audits.
• Technical expertise to lead architecture decisions and balance latency with correctness in environments using TypeScript, Go, Postgres, and hybrid AWS/private cloud infrastructure.
• Experience partnering closely with compliance and risk teams within regulated finance products.
• Aptitude for rapid development of innovative products without compromising on necessary domain controls and safety.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in launching retail trading or investment platforms from scratch.
• Familiarity with FIX protocol and broker/exchange connectivity interfaces.
• Knowledge of financial markets in MENA or emerging markets, along with associated regulatory landscapes.
