About the Role and Organization

The Editing and Research Coordinator will serve under the Editor-in-Chief of Evangelization & Culture at Word on Fire Catholic Ministries, a nonprofit global media apostolate led by Bishop Robert Barron. This position supports the mission of evangelization by engaging with high-profile contributors across online content, journal publications, and podcasts to enrich Catholic culture engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Editor-in-Chief in researching and initiating contact with influential writers, thinkers, and speakers for the Journal, Podcast, and Digital platforms.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships through personalized outreach, gifting, recruitment, and nurturing of contributors.
  • Develop collaborations with prominent Catholic and secular media outlets to expand Word on Fire's reach.
  • Coordinate featuring of key contributors on Evangelization & Culture online offerings, collaborating with the Senior Digital Managing Editor.
  • Support internal teams in marketing and social media efforts to effectively promote guest essays, journals, and podcast episodes.
  • Assist with topic selection, contributor recruitment, editing, and promotion of The College Beat to foster younger Catholic evangelists.
  • Establish connections with university officials, professors, Newman Centers, and Catholic institutions to broaden outreach and provide affordable access to Word on Fire materials.
  • Contribute creatively by writing for the E & C Journal and Online as needed and supporting podcast guest outreach and communication.
  • Manage daily editorial tasks such as obtaining copyright permissions, processing writer payments, correspondence, meeting organization, scheduling, and maintaining project tracking tools.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in English, writing, journalism, or theology.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing and editing with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain consistent tone, voice, and formatting across diverse content types.
  • Competence in verifying facts, statistics, and citation accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities for effective interaction with internal teams and contributors.
  • Collaborative work approach with both internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Word on Fire.

Preferred Background

  • Prior experience grounded in Theology, Philosophy, or English writing and editing.
  • Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style standards.
  • Strong critical thinking to synthesize complex materials into concise briefs.
  • Proficiency in Google Docs, Slides, Spreadsheets, and Monday.com for workflow management.
  • Knowledge of Bishop Robert Barron's work and Word on Fire's ministry.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Capacity to sit or stand for prolonged periods while operating computer and office equipment involving repetitive hand motions.
  • Comfort working in an open-office setup with moderate ambient noise.
  • Able to inspect documents and work with software interfaces continuously.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills to exchange accurate information frequently.

Compensation and Benefits

The position offers an hourly wage between $27.48 and $32.97, equating to an annual salary range of approximately $50,014 to $60,005 based on a 35-hour week. Salary is determined by factors including experience, skill set, and alignment with responsibilities.
