Role Overview

We seek an experienced Director of Engineering for our Global Developer Engineering team within the Tech Foundations vertical, stationed in Berlin. Your mission is to enhance Delivery Hero's engineering efficiency by streamlining complexity through a unified, principled platform and delivering an outstanding developer experience. You'll oversee the developer platform and core infrastructure that supports over 4,000 engineers worldwide to build, deploy, and maintain reliable software. Your success will accelerate product timelines, improve system stability, and optimize cloud infrastructure expenses across the group.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and implement a platform and infrastructure strategy aligned with business goals, managing budgets, optimizing costs, and demonstrating clear return on investment to executive leadership.
• Adopt a "platform-as-a-product" philosophy, treating developers as customers, providing self-service tools and streamlined workflows to reduce complexity and accelerate development.
• Lead, expand, and mentor a global team of 50+ platform engineers across key hubs like Berlin and Barcelona, fostering a culture based on trust, accountability, and continuous development.
• Guide engineering managers and coordinate platform teams across subsidiaries to uphold consistent engineering standards.
• Oversee the architecture and rollout of automated, secure multi-cloud (AWS/GCP) infrastructure and microservices tooling consistent with technical guidelines.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years’ experience in Software Engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering, including 5+ years focused on platform engineering at scale.
• Proven track record in building, growing, and driving adoption of unified developer platforms within complex, distributed organizations.
• Strong expertise in cloud-native microservices, event-driven architectures, and containerization with advanced observability solutions.
• Proficient in modern programming languages such as Go, along with deep experience in AWS and GCP cloud ecosystems.
• At least 5 years in senior engineering leadership roles, leading multiple teams and delivering value to internal stakeholders.
• Excellent communication and influencing abilities with success gaining consensus from senior leaders.
• Strong financial acumen managing infrastructure budgets and driving operational cost efficiencies.
• A Master’s degree in Computer Science, related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience is advantageous.
