Design Director

Role Overview

We are seeking a Design Director to act as an expert evaluator in real-world design projects. The main function is to create and apply precise grading rubrics tailored to specific design tasks, reviewing completed work samples with detailed, written justifications. The role requires consistency and rigor in evaluation, akin to a calibrated expert reviewer rather than a creator.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed, task-specific grading criteria across various design outputs including brand identity, campaign visuals, layouts, packaging, and digital assets.
• Assess and score design samples following the established criteria, providing evidence-based written explanations for all ratings.
• Ensure consistency and reproducibility of evaluations within and across reviewer teams by applying sound judgment.
• Incorporate structured feedback from senior reviewers, iterating quickly on both grading criteria and scoring methods.
• Maintain thorough documentation to support calibration and peer review processes of evaluations.

Essential Requirements

• Extensive professional experience in graphic, brand, or visual design roles.
• Expertise in core design principles such as typography, layout, visual hierarchy, color theory, composition, and brand systems.
• Strong capability to communicate detailed design critiques in clear, precise written form, comparable to a design lead’s level.
• A consistent history of applying detailed and reliable judgment within professional design environments.

Additional Information

• Position Type: Hourly contract
• Compensation Range: $80 to $150 per hour
• Work Environment: Fully remote
