Job Overview

As a Database Administrator, you will oversee the management of database software, ensuring data integrity and the proper placement of data files to meet organizational requirements. You will write, monitor, and optimize database objects for peak performance while providing essential support for application development projects. Your duties include routine database administration, performance monitoring, security management, and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install and upgrade database software on servers, monitor performance, and apply necessary patches or fixes.
  • Assist corporate functions and teams with database-related technical problems.
  • Administer database security and respond to performance issues reported by users, providing timely updates and advice.
  • Configure and manage backup processes and perform data restoration when required.
  • Design, implement, and integrate database systems, optimizing and securing data-related services.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of installations, modifications, and operational procedures.
  • Develop and maintain database solutions for new projects, including ETL workflows for data interfaces.
  • Automate routine operational tasks with scripts and write efficient SQL queries for data extraction.
  • Enhance internal database administration standards and customer service quality.
  • Generate performance statistics and prepare regular status reports for management.
  • Collaborate with system engineers and developers to maintain 24/7 production availability and recoverability.
  • Provide support during migrations, updates, fixes, including after-hours and weekend work as needed.
  • Perform additional duties essential for overall management and operation of the database environment.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related area.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant professional experience working with database administration.

Technical and Soft Skills

  • Proficiency working with Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office and remote desktop applications.
  • Experience with help desk software and report writing.
  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic abilities.
  • Good learning agility and ability to quickly grasp new technologies.
  • Effective teamwork and communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and reliability with a professional and positive attitude.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This role requires performing duties both indoors and occasionally outdoors. Frequent use of phone and email communication is essential. Normal hearing and vision (correctable) are necessary for conversations and document handling.

The position involves remaining seated at a workstation about half of the time with periodic movement to access office resources and attend meetings. It requires occasional physical activity to maintain equipment, including reaching under desks or overhead. Some requirements include moderate lifting of hardware like computers, racks, and printers, and good manual dexterity with common office technology.
