About the Role

The Litigation Team at Uber manages a wide-ranging portfolio including antitrust, marketing, intellectual property, privacy, securities, accessibility, contract disputes, unfair competition, and related areas. We are looking for a highly skilled, business-focused attorney to oversee complex U.S. corporate litigation and provide counsel for all Uber delivery services such as UberEats.

This role reports to a Legal Director and can be based in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas, or Washington D.C. It offers an exciting chance to join a top-tier legal department and engage with challenging legal issues in a fast-moving setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop strategies for diverse corporate litigation matters nationwide across several practice areas and various legal stages, from early threats and small claims to class actions, trials, arbitrations, and appeals.
  • Engage actively in all litigation aspects, including factual investigation, drafting and revising briefs, discovery responses, witness preparation, and negotiation/drafting of settlement agreements.
  • Take steps to perform legal work internally when possible; manage all aspects of external counsel relationships, including staffing, litigation approach, budgeting, invoice oversight, compliance, and deliverables.
  • Provide clear and practical legal advice to support company objectives, including guidance on contracts, advertising, trade secrets, and product-related matters.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate potential litigation risks.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include at least five years of extensive litigation experience either in law firms or in-house legal teams, a Juris Doctor degree, and licensure to practice law in at least one U.S. state.

Preferred qualities include a collaborative team-oriented attitude with flexibility, the capability to handle cases through complex legal procedures, exceptional research, writing, negotiation and advocacy skills, strong interpersonal abilities to engage with business leaders, high ethical standards, and prior courtroom or alternative dispute resolution experience. Familiarity with eDiscovery practices is advantageous. Enthusiasm for working at Uber is also valued.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary range varies by city: $187,000-$208,000 for Chicago; $208,000-$231,000 for New York, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. Employees are eligible for Uber’s bonus programs, potential equity awards, 401(k) plans, and various other benefits.

Additional Information

Uber encourages collaborative office presence with a requirement for at least half of working hours onsite, except where full remote work is approved. Certain roles require full in-office presence. Uber is an Equal Opportunity employer, welcoming applications regardless of gender identity, race, disability, veteran status, or other protected characteristics. Accommodations are available for applicants with disabilities upon request.
