Role overview
We are hiring a Cost Controller for a well-established hospitality and leisure business in Malta. This position sits within a lively food and beverage plus retail setting and is suited to someone who is precise, analytical, and eager to progress in a commercially driven operational role.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee and regulate spending on food, beverages, and other operational supplies across the business.
- Work out ingredient costs and help shape menu costing and pricing decisions.
- Assess menu pricing against changes in supplier costs and ingredient prices.
- Support the leadership team in building profitable menu and pricing approaches.
- Track stock levels, stock flow, and stock rotation practices.
- Carry out routine physical inventory counts and match results against records.
- Look into inventory differences and help drive corrective measures.
- Apply inventory control processes that help cut waste, losses, and operational mistakes.
- Review food and beverage cost data, patterns, and variances.
- Compile regular cost control reports and share insights with management.
- Monitor wastage and suggest practical ways to reduce costs.
- Support budgeting and forecasting for operational spending.
- Examine sales figures, menu mix, and product performance.
- Spot slow-selling retail products and propose actions to improve sales turnover.
- Keep inventory, costing, and stock records accurate and up to date.
- Assist with audits, stock checks, investigations, and internal control activities.
- Collaborate closely with kitchen, procurement, retail, and management teams.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience in inventory management within a food and beverage environment.
- Background in stock control, inventory management, cost control, or a similar position.
- Solid understanding of food and beverage costing techniques.
- Retail experience will be viewed as an advantage.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and reporting abilities.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Confident using Microsoft Excel and inventory management systems.
- Experience with Materials Control or Simphony POS will be considered an asset.
- Well-organised with good time management skills.
- Able to work on your own as well as within a team.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proactive, with a strong problem-solving approach.
