Job Overview
This role offers a rewarding opportunity within the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) in Poplar Bluff, MO. The Construction Inspector position is available at three career levels—Entry, Intermediate, and Senior—with progressive salaries ranging from entry-level pay up to $78,506.88 annually, depending on skills and experience. The job focuses on inspecting construction projects to ensure adherence to plans, technical specifications, contract provisions, and sound engineering practices with moderate supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and conduct inspection of construction work to verify contractor compliance with contracts, specifications, and engineering standards.
- Lead inspection of routine construction elements including asphalt or Portland cement concrete plants, paving, grading, base layers, small bridges, box and pipe culverts, as well as special tasks like utility adjustments, signing, traffic signals, and lighting.
- Perform measurements and calculations supporting final plan preparations, change orders, contractor payment estimates, and cost engineering.
- Maintain detailed construction documentation, records, and reports; update supervisors on progress and notable job site developments.
- Assist with contractor surveying tasks, act as party chief for routine layout and staking, and operate instruments for complex structural projects.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
- Potential requirement to be certified for operating nuclear gauges.
- Successful completion of a work simulation test and medical-physical examination.
Working Conditions
- Position involves moderate physical activity and working in environments with physical hazards or challenging conditions.
- May require vehicle operation for snow plowing and ice control operations.
