Role overview
The CAD Draftsman will produce, update, and manage engineering drawings and related records that guide the design and manufacturing of aluminum boats and associated parts. The role partners with Engineering, Production, and Manufacturing to develop accurate, buildable designs that improve fabrication, assembly, and overall product quality.
Key responsibilities
- Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings for boat hulls, structural elements, and components.
- Translate early-stage concepts into technical drawings ready for production.
- Keep engineering files, revision histories, and drawing databases up to date.
- Work with production teams to troubleshoot design and fabrication challenges.
- Review engineering notes, sketches, and specifications to produce accurate drawings.
- Help develop prototypes and contribute ideas for design refinements.
- Verify that drawings follow applicable standards and required manufacturing tolerances.
- Process engineering changes and revise drawings accordingly.
- Take part in design reviews aimed at improving manufacturability and product quality.
- Support testing, prototype development, and ongoing product-improvement efforts.
- Follow company safety and environmental requirements, including hazardous waste practices where applicable under RCRA.
Requirements
- Associate degree or technical certification in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related area.
- Hands-on experience with CAD tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent software.
- Understanding of aluminum fabrication methods is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical sketches, and engineering drawings.
- Strong attention to detail along with solid problem-solving ability.
