Role Overview

The Buyer role is critical to ensuring the efficient and cost-effective procurement of necessary goods, materials, equipment, and services to support company operations and projects, particularly in Western Canada. This position involves collaboration with internal teams and external suppliers to align procurement activities with company goals while maintaining high standards of quality and supplier relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in and promote Soletanche Bachy Canada's Health and Safety Program, striving for a positive and proactive safety culture.
  • Procure goods and services aligned with project demands, ensuring adherence to quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery.
  • Apply the five purchasing principles: the right quality, quantity, price, vendor, and delivery timing.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Operations, Estimating, Finance, and other stakeholders to ensure procurement meets project and operational needs.
  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard new suppliers; negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules; maintain strong vendor partnerships.
  • Manage purchase orders thoroughly, ensuring accurate documentation and approvals.
  • Track and expedite orders to secure timely delivery based on project timelines.
  • Monitor and resolve supplier performance issues regarding cost, quality, delivery, and service.
  • Lead supplier assessments and participate in performance evaluations to guarantee contractual compliance.

Qualifications

Education: A Certificate or Diploma in Supply Chain Management, Purchasing, Business Administration, Commerce, or related discipline is required.

Experience:

  • Two to five years of experience in procurement, supply chain management, purchasing, or materials management.
  • Experience in construction, engineering, heavy civil, industrial, or infrastructure sectors is highly valuable.
  • Proven ability to source materials, equipment, and services, manage supplier relationships and handle purchase orders effectively.
