About the Facilities Management Division

UGA's Facilities Management Division is the largest of seven divisions under the Vice President for Finance and Administration. It consists of more than 800 employees responsible for managing and maintaining campus grounds, buildings, and infrastructure to ensure long-term sustainability.

Position Overview

The Building Services Worker II role includes all duties of Building Services Worker I with additional responsibilities. This position performs general cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and light floor care, as well as cleaning windows, walls, furniture, and other equipment inside and around university buildings. Responsibilities also include trash and recycling collection, building locking and unlocking, delivery and transport of supplies, and maintaining restrooms and janitorial supplies. Specialized duties include cleaning bodily fluids and viral/bacterial disinfection and minor light bulb replacement up to 8 feet high.

Importantly, the role entails proficient operation and maintenance of large specialized floor care equipment for carpet cleaning, extraction, stripping, waxing, burnishing floors, and refinishing wood floors. Regular building walkthroughs and equipment inspections are required, with reports submitted to supervisors.

Working Conditions and Schedule

The position is full-time Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with occasional nights or weekends based on organizational needs. The role is considered essential and may involve on-call duties.

Qualifications and Skills

Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of related experience. Preferred candidates will have familiarity with custodial equipment such as vacuum cleaners, wet/dry vacuums, T-1 scrubbers, carpet extraction machines, and floor care tools. Strong communication skills, teamwork, and flexibility to work varied shifts are also essential.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and push/pull custodial carts of similar weight
  • Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, and working with hands overhead
  • Moving throughout buildings, including stair climbing and elevator use
  • Working safely from 8-foot ladders
  • Walking across the assigned area frequently

Additional Information

The position requires driving responsibilities and security access to various university facilities. A background check including criminal history and credentials verification is mandatory. This role does not involve financial responsibilities requiring credit checks or P-Card use, nor does it involve direct care of children or patients.
