Role Purpose
The Assistant Manager - Quality (Executive - Tower QA) undertakes thorough inspections of wind turbine tower sections emphasizing weld integrity, dimensional precision, and surface treatment standards. Utilizing non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques, this role ensures defect detection, maintains comprehensive quality documentation, supervises supplier adherence, and validates coating quality. The position actively supports continuous enhancement processes, mentors junior inspectors, collaborates effectively with production teams, and guarantees compliance with recognized industry quality standards for tower manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead material testing initiatives, including chemical and mechanical assessments, to confirm material suitability and compliance with applicable structural standards.
- Supervise metrology and dimensional controls, ensuring components meet strict measurement criteria and measurement tools are accurately calibrated.
- Implement rigorous in-process quality control during fabrication and forming operations, ensuring flawless machining synergy within towers.
- Develop, maintain, and monitor corrosion protection strategies, employing metallurgical analysis and NDT methods to preempt structural degradation risks.
- Conduct detailed inspections of tower sections focusing on weld quality, dimensional accuracy, and surface treatment conformeity using ultrasonic and magnetic particle NDT techniques.
- Evaluate and audit suppliers' manufacturing processes, provide corrective feedback, and facilitate improvements to uphold component quality.
- Inspect and validate surface finishes and protective coatings, ensuring adherence to standards for both onshore and offshore environments.
- Maintain updated compliance procedures aligned with standards like ISO 10721 and IEC 61400-23 to reflect latest industry best practices.
- Engage in continuous improvement efforts targeting weld quality enhancement and defect reduction in tower manufacturing operations.
- Support training programs by educating junior inspectors on advanced inspection and quality assurance techniques.
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams to incorporate quality standards throughout production and address any onsite quality issues.
- Maintain meticulous records of all inspection activities, ensuring thorough documentation for audits and traceability of tower components.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
- Minimum of five years' experience in inspecting and quality controlling tower sections and welds.
- Expertise in non-destructive testing methods and familiarity with tower manufacturing quality standards.
