Job Overview

The Assistant General Manager for Business Controlling will oversee coordination and consolidation activities related to budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting for a multi-billion dollar enterprise. This role supports senior management by providing detailed business analytics across various trade segments, along with managing strategic projects and maintaining critical costing systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and compile the Consolidated Annual Budget for a $3 billion business, segmented by business units, subsidiaries, individual trades and sub-trades, supported with detailed country volume, rate mix, and equipment-specific profit and loss statements.
  • Lead the Monthly 5-Quarter Rolling Forecast process by incorporating changes in deployment plans, market-driven shifts in rates, volumes, and load factors, utilizing a four-phase AFPO process (Actual, Forecast, Plan, Outlook).
  • Report monthly Actual performance with detailed product-level analyses, segmented by trade managers across various trade routes including long-haul, Intra-Asia, MELL, MSC etc.
  • Prepare monthly business updates for the Group CEO and Board of Directors including performance highlights, quarterly and annual forecasts, market conditions, opportunities, and risk exposures.
  • Conduct ad hoc financial analyses for strategic projects such as launching new services, CAPEX plans involving vessels and equipment investments, and sensitivity analyses at CEO and CFO direction.
  • Co-own and maintain critical financial data warehouse systems including the standard costing module and Anaplan platform to ensure data accuracy and accessibility.
  • Manage the costing and control of vessel and slot costs, including detailed reviews and reporting of joint service agreements with partners like COSCO, EVERGREEN, OOCL, CMA, and various feeder operators.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

  • Possess a degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field.
  • Bring a minimum of 20 years’ relevant experience, particularly in financial controlling and business analysis.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with proven capability managing teams.
  • Experience collaborating and supporting senior management with actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication skills alongside strong problem-solving and continuous improvement abilities.
  • Familiarity with Anaplan, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and data visualization/dashboard tools such as Power BI is preferred.
