About the Role and Company

You will join Sun Life's Corporate Development team based in Toronto, contributing to strategic initiatives across the company’s four pillars. This role involves evaluating and driving mergers, acquisitions, sales, minority equity investments, joint ventures, partnerships, and other strategic projects. The position blends short and long-term growth strategy formulation and execution alongside a talented and collaborative team focused on enhancing the lives of clients globally. Regular presence is required at the Toronto One York office with flexible hybrid arrangements possible upon prior approval.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and assess a variety of strategic growth opportunities including mergers, acquisitions, minority investments, sales, joint ventures, and partnership arrangements.
  • Support all transaction phases, managing multi-disciplinary due diligence processes to detect risks and establish appropriate mitigating strategies.
  • Develop comprehensive evaluation materials and presentations summarizing strategic benefits, financial impacts, and risks for senior leadership approval.
  • Construct and update robust financial models used for valuation, transaction analysis, and strategic financial planning.
  • Conduct industry research, market studies, and competitive benchmarking to gain insights on trends and business opportunities for internal teams.
  • Undertake ad-hoc business analyses to assist in strategic planning and other special projects as needed.
  • Maintain databases containing information on peer companies and precedent transactions.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Between one to three years’ relevant experience in fields such as investment banking, corporate development, transaction advisory, consulting, or accounting.
  • A bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, commerce, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in creating and maintaining detailed financial models.
  • Strong grasp of capital budgeting, financial statement interpretation, and valuation methodologies.
