Position Overview

A premier heavy civil general contractor seeks a Vice President of Operations to lead executive management for a series of large-scale infrastructure projects across the New York metropolitan region. The company specializes in major public transportation, bridges, tunnels, rail systems, utilities, wastewater, and other public infrastructure projects serving prominent regional agencies.

Core Duties

  • Oversee multiple substantial heavy civil infrastructure initiatives from initial planning through project completion.
  • Develop and execute operational strategies driving financial performance, forecasting, risk mitigation, and timely schedule adherence.
  • Ensure all projects uphold stringent safety and ethical standards while meeting deadlines and profitability goals.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to Project Executives, Project Managers, Superintendents, and operational support personnel.
  • Foster and maintain robust partnerships with public entities, joint ventures, union representatives, subcontractors, and critical stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with estimating and business development teams on project pursuits, staffing decisions, and risk assessments.
  • Implement uniform operational standards and encourage continuous organizational improvement.
  • Promote a culture emphasizing safety, accountability, collaboration, inclusivity, and operational excellence.

Required Qualifications

  • Over 15 years of ascending leadership roles within heavy civil or infrastructure construction sectors.
  • Proven track record managing expansive projects involving transportation, bridges, tunnels, railroads, utilities, or wastewater systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of self-perform construction practices, project controls, labor relations, contract management, claims resolution, and financial oversight.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness leading large multidisciplinary teams and navigating complex stakeholder relationships.
  • Familiarity with New York City construction market dynamics and regional public agency procedures is highly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or closely related field is preferred.
  • Exceptional skills in leadership, commercial decision-making, communication, and client relations.
