Role Overview

The New Zealand team is seeking an Underwriter who will be instrumental in making credit decisions promptly and consistently, ensuring quality experiences for mortgage advisers and customers. This position involves evaluating residential lending applications, applying thorough credit judgment, and collaborating closely with advisers and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail and risk awareness are key.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Evaluating residential loan applications against credit policies and delegated authority limits.
• Analyzing customer data, documentation, and risk elements to secure sound credit decisions.
• Establishing strong partnerships with mortgage advisers and business units through clear communication and excellent service.
• Effectively managing an application pipeline to adhere to service standards and turnaround targets.
• Escalating unusual or policy-exceeding submissions for further review.
• Ensuring loan files are complete, accurate, and compliant prior to loan settlement.
• Collaborating with Credit, Operations, and Sales teams to foster positive customer outcomes.
• Participating in continuous improvement processes and promoting a culture of compliance and risk awareness.

Candidate Profile

• Experience in mortgage lending, credit evaluation, underwriting, or financial services.
• Sound knowledge of residential lending principles and credit risk management.
• Strong analytical skills capable of making well-balanced, informed decisions.
• Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work standards.
• Organizational abilities to handle multiple priorities effectively.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, confident in interacting with advisers and stakeholders.
