Role Overview
The Trade Advisor will partner with customers, including business clients and tradespeople, as well as the store team, Head Office, and the Head of Retail. The role focuses on delivering excellent service, strengthening trade and B2B relationships, and helping the store achieve strong commercial results.
Key Responsibilities
You will support store leadership in developing the team, improving sales performance, and growing the trade customer base. The position also includes hands-on customer service, delivery support, merchandising, stock oversight, and compliance responsibilities.
General Duties
- Support the Store Manager in training and developing the team to help achieve retail goals.
- Work with the Store Manager and Specification Representative to increase store sales and expand trade/B2B participation.
- Develop and maintain relationships with both existing and new B2B customers.
- Advise business customers on projects and recommend products from the range.
- Help ensure retail strategy updates are introduced effectively and understood by the team.
- Provide a customer experience that goes beyond expectations.
- Take responsibility for short-term delivery of store objectives when needed.
- Maintain strong merchandising standards to showcase the decorative product range.
- Act as key holder for the store.
- Follow ISO 14001, 9001, and 45001 requirements to support environmental, quality, and health and safety standards.
People and Store Operations
- Help the Store Manager keep the business objectives and retail targets active and clearly understood by the team.
- Use standard operating procedures to manage inventory through cycle counts, stocktakes, and spot checks so product availability meets business needs.
- Keep the in-store team informed about ongoing trade and B2B projects.
Commercial Focus
- Work with the Store Manager to exceed sales budgets by reviewing trade and B2B reports and working toward agreed KPIs.
- Use space management effectively through seasonal changes that support both consumer and trade needs.
- Build awareness of the local market and suggest opportunities to the Store Manager.
- Help organise trade days and colour events with key suppliers.
- Support in-store visual merchandising and window displays.
Relationships and Communication
- Build strong working relationships with key stakeholders, trade customers, business customers, and interior designers.
- Ensure communication within the store and with Head Office is timely, clear, and consistent.
- Lead by example in day-to-day communication and collaboration.
Delivery of Orders
- Provide excellent service during deliveries and treat every customer with care.
- Build customer loyalty by responding well to requests and expectations.
- Load, transport, and deliver products safely and on time to customers or businesses.
- Check orders before and after delivery to confirm completeness, paperwork accuracy, and customer satisfaction.
- Assist with loading and unloading vehicles.
- Follow assigned routes and delivery schedules.
- Comply with all traffic laws, including the Road Traffic Act 2010.
- Observe all health and safety requirements in line with legislation and company policy.
Core Competencies
The role calls for strong technical ability, solid IT confidence, and the capacity to learn new systems quickly. Experience with online sales, online meetings, and CRM tools would be an advantage. The ideal candidate should communicate clearly and professionally, work well independently, handle multiple tasks, stay organised, and show strong ownership, attention to detail, and a customer-first mindset.
