About Madsen Lawrie Surveyors
Madsen Lawrie Surveyors is a multidisciplinary consultancy based in Pukekohe, New Zealand, operating throughout Auckland and Waikato. They specialize in surveying, planning, and engineering services, focusing mainly on subdivision, land development, and rural and residential projects.
Role Overview
This role is a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover parental leave, based in the Pukekohe office. It involves approximately 24 hours of work per week, with potential flexibility in hours and start date. The position is hands-on with responsibilities including preparing and managing resource consent applications across various projects. The planner will collaborate closely with surveyors, engineers, project managers, clients, external consultants, and Council officers.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare resource consent applications including Environmental Effects Assessments and related planning assessments.
- Evaluate subdivision, land use, and development proposals against relevant planning regulations.
- Coordinate and review technical contributions from surveyors, engineers, architects, and other specialists.
- Respond to Council requests such as section 92 correspondence.
- Maintain communication with clients, consultants, and Council staff.
- Support project scoping, feasibility studies, cost estimates, and project management tasks.
- Oversee planning inputs from initial project assessment through Council decision and consent enforcement.
Candidate Requirements
- Relevant qualifications in planning or equivalent professional planning experience.
- Proven experience preparing resource consent applications and Environmental Effects Assessments for subdivision and land development.
- Good understanding of resource management legislation, National Environmental Standards and Policy Statements, and consent procedures.
- Familiarity with Auckland Unitary Plan and Waikato District Plan frameworks.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team.
- Strong written communication skills with attention to detail and deadline management.
- Practical and solution-oriented approach to planning and land development challenges.
- A valid New Zealand driver's license.
- Experience in private planning consultancy is advantageous but not mandatory.
