Role Overview
The Strategic Buyer for Indirect Procurement oversees the purchase and procurement strategies for various indirect goods and services, ensuring efficiency and cost-effectiveness while adhering to company policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead local strategic sourcing for indirect procurement of services and goods.
- Build and manage supplier relationships to meet material cost, availability, and inventory objectives.
- Negotiate prices, contract terms, and long-term agreements with key suppliers.
- Conduct supplier cost analysis and develop reports and dashboards to support management decision-making.
- Collaborate closely with global commodity managers to implement worldwide procurement strategies.
- Analyze supplier cost and pricing data, benchmarking against competitors.
- Identify and resolve recurring quality issues with suppliers, promoting continuous improvement.
- Organize product teams to solve problems or address issues.
- Maintain supplier quality and delivery standards through thorough evaluations and ongoing monitoring.
- Support various internal departments such as engineering, sales, and production by supplying relevant delivery and order data to optimize material usage.
- Ensure accurate maintenance of supplier, part, and purchase order data.
- Ensure supplier compliance with company regulations and standards.
- Handle and resolve pricing, invoicing, and contract disputes pragmatically with suppliers.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with order management, sales, engineering, production, accounting, and quality teams on part-related matters.
- Maintain inventory levels aligned with production efficiency and cost-saving targets.
- Adhere to safety and environmental protocols as outlined in company resources.
- Conduct special projects as assigned and other duties as directed by management.
- Evaluate and track supplier performance continuously.
- Manage stakeholders using agile methodologies to ensure timely, budget-conscious, and quality deliveries.
Educational Qualifications
- B.E/B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering combined with MBA/PGDM in Supply Chain or Business Management, or
- M.Com with an MBA in Finance & Supply Chain.
Experience and Skills
- 8 to 10 years of strategic procurement experience with a minimum of 8 years focused on sourcing indirect procurement commodities.
- Knowledge and skill set relevant to various commodities including Engineering, Legal, Transportation, Facility, Service Center, Engineering Center services, event management, hotel and taxi long-term contracts.
- Ability to draft Service Level Agreements for indirect procurement categories.
- Strong teamwork, negotiation, interpersonal, and professional skills.
- Solid understanding of purchasing policies, procedures, and vendor negotiations tailored to budgets and schedules.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and essential SAP skills.
- Excellent communication skills across all organizational levels and external contacts.
- Capability to manage commodities globally across multiple locations.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for supplier process learning.
- Active supplier network management.
Work Environment
- The job is primarily office-based from Monday to Friday.
- May require occasional standing, reaching, and grasping.
- Frequent use of hands for keyboard and mouse operation, and regular walking within the workspace.
- Close vision and ability to adjust focus are required.
