Role overview
The Store Buyer is responsible for purchasing store products and making sure all related administration is completed accurately. The role focuses on buying decisions, supplier coordination, promotions, stock performance, claims, and profitability control.
Promotions and deals
- Support the development of the annual nationwide promotional plan.
- Build supplier-specific promotion grids that align with the national promotional strategy.
- Negotiate monthly supplier activity in line with the agreed grid and promotional plan.
Reconciliations
- Work to support sales results in line with the company’s business goals.
- Help the invoicing team meet the sales conversion target.
- Handle member claims-related work.
- Understand and manage SCM claim procedures and assess whether claims are profitable.
Shrinkage and profitability control
- Follow all safety rules and immediately escalate unsafe conditions or unsafe practices to management.
- Report any suspicious activity or individuals to management and security staff.
- Continue to comply with all safety requirements at all times.
Customer satisfaction and supplier engagement
- Maintain frequent contact with suppliers.
- Manage supplier performance with a focus on profitability and company objectives, giving priority to the most profitable suppliers.
- Drive growth for the top 30 suppliers.
- Hold regular supplier meetings to help them meet their targets.
- Decide on product ranges and compare supplier product offerings.
- Keep a strong standard of ethics, anti-corruption compliance, discipline, accountability, and commitment.
In-store range and replenishment
- Select the products most suitable for the local market and purchase accordingly.
- Review the assortment regularly by tracking product performance and identifying fast-moving, slow-moving, and dead stock.
- Run quarterly range reviews with suppliers to agree on discontinued items, new listings, space allocation, and merchandising approaches.
- Continuously look for new business opportunities with emerging suppliers.
Requirements
The ideal candidate should have relevant tertiary training in Administration, Marketing, Finance, or a similar field, along with 7 to 10 years of experience in a related buying role within an FMCG environment. Strong computer skills are essential, including intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office proficiency. Knowledge of ARCH will be considered an advantage.
