Job Overview
We seek an experienced and driven Senior Scientist to join our Research & Development division. The ideal candidate will have expertise in batch chemical reactors and catalytic process development, including catalyst synthesis and optimization. This role entails leading the design and development of synthetic routes for diverse biomaterial targets, managing projects from early research to pilot and commercial-scale manufacturing. Responsibilities include hands-on laboratory work, strategic process oversight, enhancing product quality, and guiding scale-up operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead scientific research initiatives from concept through laboratory validation.
- Oversee daily chemical handling and operations with strict adherence to safety protocols using proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Operate, maintain, and supervise equipment used in chemical processing and testing.
- Plan and conduct complex experiments independently or with teams to optimize chemical processes and catalyst development.
- Analyze and communicate intricate scientific data effectively.
- Develop test programs to assess material properties and interpret analytical results from instruments such as GC, HPLC, GPC, MS, and spectroscopy.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure lab-scale research smoothly transitions to pilot-scale production.
- Provide technical mentorship and leadership to junior R&D staff.
- Establish and refine laboratory procedures and documentation, including standard operating procedures and progress reports.
- Stay informed on technological trends to continually improve process efficiency.
- Prepare technical publications, patents, and maintain thorough laboratory records aligned with company standards.
- Participate actively in team meetings and contribute to organizational objectives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Doctorate in Chemistry with at least five years of post-doctoral experience, preferably in an industrial environment.
- Extensive background in synthetic organic chemistry with demonstrable achievements such as publications, patents, and completed projects.
- Experience in managing R&D workflows for optimum productivity.
- Background in biorefinery, petroleum, or chemical industries is highly advantageous.
- Ability to safely use respirators per OSHA standards, including passing fit tests and adhering to facial hair policies where the device seals the face.
- Strong foundation in chemical principles combined with leadership, project management, and mentoring skills.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, communication, and documentation capabilities.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and web-based applications.
- Detail-oriented with a proactive and self-driven work ethic.
Physical Requirements
The role may require lifting materials up to 50 pounds, performing bending, reaching above shoulder height, climbing stairs, pulling, and prolonged standing or sitting. Adherence to safety protocols and proper use of company-provided personal protective equipment is mandatory.
