Position Overview
A federal Government client is looking to hire a Senior Infrastructure Engineer across Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Adelaide. The role is initially contracted for 12 months with the possibility of a 24-month extension. Candidates must hold NV1 Security clearance. Work is arranged in a hybrid onsite model.
Role Summary
The Senior Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for implementing, managing, and decommissioning ICT infrastructure—encompassing physical, virtual, network, and cloud environments—that supports government digital services. This expert role involves managing all ICT platforms including designing, installing, configuring, deploying, securing, and operating ICT components and databases.
Infrastructure Engineers work closely with third-party vendors to maintain a resilient infrastructure and coordinate with architecture and shared services teams to uphold security in everyday technical operations. The position grants considerable independence, with decision-making relying heavily on professional judgment considering agency-wide implications, all under the oversight of senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in delivering a strategic, optimized system landscape.
- Manage ICT system instance landscape design, installation, operation, client services, and transport processes.
- Provide comprehensive technical support during project builds, testing, and deployment.
- Configure and oversee non-functional platform services, including job scheduling, output and email management, archiving, security, and connectivity between software components.
- Collaborate with infrastructure teams on hardware procurement, design, and rollout.
- Manage ICT technical operations and solution interfaces.
- Develop and execute backup and disaster recovery strategies.
- Conduct problem management and root cause analysis.
- Lead operational teams by prioritizing tasks and managing resources.
- Mentor junior staff and share subject-matter expertise proactively.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to achieve project goals.
- Participate in vendor meetings to influence outcomes and share insights.
- Create and review technical documentation and reports.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in DevSecOps, automation tools, ISPF/TSO, Control-M, GitLab.
- Hands-on experience with Linux (RedHat), Ansible, OpenShift, OpenStack.
- Familiarity with scripting languages including bash, ksh, shell, python, perl.
- Experience with Job Control Language (JCL), REXX, JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Knowledge of Google V8 engine and Google Protocol Buffers.
Eligibility & Criteria
Essential: Proven experience in developing and maintaining multiple integrated non-production environments.
Desirable: Working knowledge of containerised Linux environments, M204, SOUL databases, delivering complex changes rapidly, and excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
