Position Overview
We seek an experienced Senior Data Engineer proficient in Azure Data Engineering, preferably with Fabric knowledge. This role can be contract or permanent, with preference for candidates who can start immediately or within a short notice period. The position supports remote-first or hybrid work arrangements anywhere in Australia or New Zealand, requiring current legal work eligibility in either country.
Core Responsibilities
- Oversee, support, and execute the development of advanced Azure Data Platform technical solutions.
- Lead comprehensive planning, provisioning, and deployment of Azure Data services hands-on.
- Provide expertise in infrastructure and automation to enhance delivery of Data Warehousing, Data Functions, and full data analytics projects.
- Architect solutions using Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Data Warehousing, Data Lakes, and Application Insights.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to capture specifications and translate them into effective data solutions.
- Manage data warehousing activities including data manipulation, migration, and system integration.
- Administer complex Microsoft PaaS SQL Server databases in high availability setups, including SQL clusters, Always On, and Availability Groups; execute migrations from on-premises to Azure cloud.
- Implement logging through Log Analytics Workspace and configure diagnostic settings.
- Assist both internal and external engineers in configuring data platforms for ingestion, transformation, extraction, and cleansing processes.
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience designing and delivering solutions within Azure Data Engineering, with familiarity in Fabric preferred.
- Strong capability to comprehend business needs and architect tailored Azure data engineering solutions.
- Deep expertise in Azure Data Platform frameworks including cloud-based analytics, Data Catalog, Data Lineage, and Machine Learning.
- Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Warehousing, Azure Synapse, Azure Databricks, data modeling, Azure SQL, Big Data, Data Lakes, Application Insights, and Fabric.
- Proficient in traditional Microsoft BI tools such as SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS.
- Solid understanding of database concepts including SQL Server and Azure SQL DB/Managed Instance alongside application service configurations.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps, automation tools, DevOps integration, and DataOps practices.
- Knowledgeable in broader Azure services, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), ETL processes, CosmosDB, Event Hub, and reporting/dashboard solutions.
- Desirable skills include T-SQL, Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Python, Scala, Impala, R, and Power BI.
