Role Overview
The Senior Accountant position entails managing precise financial records, preparing comprehensive financial statements, and ensuring full compliance with accounting standards and regulations. This role demands thorough knowledge of accounting principles, meticulous attention to detail, and effective collaboration with internal teams and external clients to uphold the firm's and clients' financial well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Record daily financial transactions and maintain up-to-date general ledgers for clients.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements following recognized accounting standards.
- Generate financial reports as needed for management and clients.
- Assist in preparing tax returns and ensure adherence to both local and national tax laws.
- Keep informed about updates and changes in tax legislation affecting the firm or clients.
- Support timely payroll processing and generate necessary payroll reports; liaise with clients on payroll-related queries.
- Manage accounts payable procedures including invoice verification and vendor payments.
- Monitor accounts receivable, engage in follow-ups for outstanding payments, and facilitate prompt collections.
- Reconcile clients' bank statements monthly, promptly addressing any discrepancies.
- Provide support in audit preparations by compiling documentation and assisting during reviews.
- Engage directly with clients to collect financial data and respond to their questions as required.
- Efficiently use accounting software and financial tools, staying updated on technological advancements.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting principles, standards, and regulations, communicating any relevant changes.
- Manage comprehensive HST/GST compliance processes, including filings, documentation maintenance, audits, and staying abreast of regulatory changes.
- Prepare and submit required annual returns, ensuring data accuracy and completeness.
- Conduct routine reconciliations over financial transactions across bank accounts, vendor and customer accounts, and general ledgers, resolving discrepancies promptly.
- Assist management with ad hoc tasks such as client correspondence, custom reports, and internal documentation.
Qualifications and Skills
- Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related disciplines.
- Preferred professional certifications: CPA or Chartered Accountant (CA).
- Proficient with accounting software including QuickBooks, Xero, Zoho Books, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in financial data handling.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Familiarity with Indian and Canadian taxation laws is an asset.
