Job description
Position Overview
This full-time role is based in the Napier offices located in Ahuriri, Hawke’s Bay. The advisor will manage a portfolio comprising approximately 50 schools and educational facilities throughout Hawke’s Bay and Tairawhiti regions, involving travel to each location at least once per year. The core responsibility is to collaborate with school boards to enhance the condition and functionality of school buildings and associated facilities through developing forward-looking capital works plans informed by condition assessments gathered during school visits and interactions with school management.
Role Responsibilities
- Conduct annual visits across multiple school sites to assess condition and identify maintenance and capital needs.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive forward capital works plans tailored per school based on thorough evaluations.
- Engage effectively with school personnel and relevant teams to ensure facilities are safe, warm, dry, and conducive to learning.
- Travel extensively within Hawke’s Bay and Tairawhiti regions to fulfill role requirements.
Team and Organisational Context
You will join a diligent, collaborative regional School Property team in a flexible work environment committed to delivering optimum infrastructure results for the schools served. The wider School Property group manages one of New Zealand's largest education property portfolios, covering over 2,100 primary and secondary schools, 8,000 hectares of land, with a valuation of $33.5 billion. Responsibilities include asset management, capital works delivery, investment planning, and portfolio oversight aimed at achieving financially prudent and high-value outcomes.
About You
- Substantial experience in asset management, construction, or facilities management.
- Strong interpersonal skills enabling effective communication and collaboration.
- Sound acumen in business and financial matters relevant to property and asset management.
- Capability and comfort in addressing complex problem-solving scenarios.
- Commitment to upholding the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
Additional Information
The New Zealand School Property Agency (NZSPA) will soon be established as a Crown entity to manage the education property portfolio, expected by November 1, 2026. The ministry will continue to oversee education policy and decisions regarding school growth and development. This role offers a chance to have significant impact within this evolving property management landscape.
Salary is offered between $100,296 and $121,490 annually, plus KiwiSaver contributions, with placement based on experience and qualifications.
